FAQs

We are a new charter business, yet a sister company to The Sailing Academy! That is what has given our business the expertise, experience, and content thus far.

01

What is the cost? Are there hidden costs to expect?

The cost is $9,500. There are no hidden cost from us. We do not charge extra for activities such as paddle boarding, snorkeling or trips ashore. Transportation to and from the yacht are not included in our prices and must be secured. That may included flights and taxis. Some meals aboard are included, but be prepared to eat at local restaurants when ashore. Tipping the captain is always appreciate but not a requirement.

03

Do we need any sailing experience? What if my children are not strong swimmers?

No, all are welcome! Sailing experience is helpful, but this is a learn-to-sail experience, and the captain will work with your family as you learn as a team.

We have life jackets aboard for non-swimmers. Comfortable life jackets will allow children to be on deck, transfer from ship to dinghy to shore safely.

02

Is the trip safe for young children?

Yes! The Sea of Abacos Bahamas is in protected waters (that means not open to the ocean or ocean swells.) The yacht has high safety lines making on-deck activity secure and life jackets are provided for all aboard underway. Calm beaches with shallow water and no current are perfect for children to play without concern. I

04

How old do my children need to be to participate?

Children as young as 5 years old can participate in activities aboard. Our captains will tailor the week to the ages of the family. For younger children, shorter sailing and instruction times and plenty of time to play and explore on the islands. More challenging activities are available for pre-teens and teenagers.

05

How large of a family can Ecco Family Charters accommodate?

Typically, we host families of up to six members aboard. Please contact us if you have a larger family to explore options.

07

If we prefer not to eat out, may we use the galley?

There are several small grocery stores along the way where provisions may be purchased. You are welcome to cook aboard in the galley. There is a refrigerator and dry storage aboard for your use.

06

What are the sleeping arrangements?

There are two sleeping cabins, one with bunk beds and the other with a double bunk. The living room area has a settee that converts into a double bunk. Each family or group has these three rooms plus a bathroom all to themselves. Even though the boat is quite large, spaces are small, yet comfortable.

08

What other activities are available other than sailing?

One at anchor or dock each day, you will have opportunities to visit remote beaches, go on tours via dinghy to feed local sea life, go on snorkeling trips, swimming at protected beaches, explore small island towns, and of course, have plenty of time to relax. Young children may go on a treasure hunt to find a goodie-filled pirates chest! They will need to use the sailing skills acquired throughout the week during this adventure.
